Itinerary

Song-Kol is a high mountain lake in the middle of the country; in summer herders put up their yurts around it. It is a 5–6 hour drive from Bishkek. On the way we have lunch with a local family in Kochkor, then climb over the Kalmak-Ashuu Pass.

We sleep in a yurt camp: dinner, quiet, stars and a cold night even in July. In the morning there is time by the lake, and we drive back over the 33 Parrots Pass. Facilities are simple and the toilet is outside — this is real life on the summer pastures, not a hotel.

  1. Day 1

    Bishkek – Kochkor – Song-Kol

    • About 5–6 hours on the road.
    • We pick you up from your hotel in Bishkek at 8:00.
    • Optional stop at Burana Tower (paid separately).
    • Lunch in Kochkor village with a local family — home cooking.
    • After lunch we drive to the lake over the Kalmak-Ashuu Pass, past pastures, horse herds and yurts.
    • We check into the yurt camp and have tea. Then free time: walk to the lake or go horse riding (optional, extra cost).
    • Dinner and overnight in a yurt.
  2. Day 2

    Song-Kol – 33 Parrots Pass – Bishkek

    • About 5–6 hours on the road.
    • Breakfast at the camp, then free time by the lake.
    • We drive back over the 33 Parrots Pass — a road of hairpin bends with a viewpoint over the valley.
    • Lunch stop on the way (at your own expense).
    • In the evening we drop you at your hotel in Bishkek.
